PLATFORM HANDICAP EN ONTWIKKELINGSSAMENWERKING
(Platform Disability and Development Cooperation)

Everybody knows the concepts of disability and development cooperation, but, at the same time, it's an unknown matter to many people.
Our Platform wants to change this. The Platform Disability and Development Cooperation was founded in 1994 with the (main) aim to improve the social position of persons with a disability everywhere in the world.

The Platform finds an interaction important between our society, which has more material and technical means at its disposal, and the societies with better ideas about inclusion.

The Platform tries to demonstrate how persons with a disability can join in the daily living of a less prosperous country, and supports initiatives that aim at that. By introducing the disabled persons and their daily activities, the Platform stresses the fact that disability is a part of our world.

The Platform itself does not set up any cooperation projects abroad, but wants to put individuals (disabled or not) and organisations in touch with disabled people in the Southern hemisphere.

PHOS supports different integration and development initiatives of persons with a disability in the South as well as in Eastern Eurooe. It puts Southern organisations in contact with NGOs in the North and vice versa.
As an information link, it tries to explain to the general public and to the persons concerned, the benefits of a worldwide cooperation.

WHOM IS PHOS AIMING AT?

  1. Persons with a disability (physical, mental or sensorial) or a chronic illness, their organisations and services: they can give us useful tips to enable the NGOs to deal with their services in a generally accessible way.
  2. Development NGOs: they can provide us with a lot of informaton about certain cultures, their history and population groups... as well as about their activities.
  3. The general public: we inform everybody who is interested in, or has questions about, disabled persons and their doings in less affluent countries.
